Mother Frances Alice Monica Forbes, also known as F.A. Forbes, was born in 1869 into a Presbyterian family. She converted to Catholicism in 1900, and entered the Society of the Sacred Heart as a postulant when she was thirty-one. Having just really appreciated the story of Saints Monica and Augustine, this was an excellent short read on the mother/son story of two of heavens greatest saints. This delicate little book will make you appreciate and ponder on her inspiration.This paperback tells of the infinite faith of Saint Monica and her unceasing cries and prayers to heaven for the redemption of the body and soul of her son, Augustine, whose youth was being spent in paganistic ways, much like his father, Patricius. But just as her prayers were in earnest for her son, likewise were they for her husband, who eventually became a Christian, being affected by the love, patience and purity of his wife's life and example.Monica's being also became a profound influence on her mother-in-law, who made Monica's life miserable, along with Patricius. But in her elder years, she began to take notice of her spiritual daughter-in-law, who always showed her the utmost respect, despite the reproaches thrown against her.And of course, the most touching and profound story of conversion due to a mother's plea, is that of Saint Augustine. He is considered by many to be one of the most gifted saints, due to his natural insights and blessings, that he initially fought against during his early years, but which brought him such gifts of witness and teaching, in his later years.The conversion stories of her mother-in-law, her husband, and then most profoundly her son, Monica is a wonderful example for anyone struggling with a yearning and desire to bring their loved ones attention to Our Lord. Print far too small

I loved this book! Such an inspiring woman. She is the patron saint of mothers, wives and for lost children. ( Lost as in religiously lost ) I wish I had found her years sooner! If you have wayward children, troubled marriage or just need a good role model then read this book.

So I bought this short but sweet biography of Saint Monica (otherwise known as St. Augustine's mother) because, even though I'm not a mother myself, I was drawn to her persistence in prayer and her charity with every person she came into contact with. So I read it and was impressed with the little details that added some animation into how I pictured St. Monica as a person. It allowed me to recommend her intercession to an aunt, and my own mother in their times of distress in the parenting world. Hopefully that recommendation can continue to spread. All from the knowledge this little gem gave to me!

I enjoyed reading this book, thought it was well written and held my interest. Led me to purchase The Confessions of St. Augustine.

This is a good easy read, very inspiring. I really appreciate this authors writings it helps to absorb you into the lives you are reading about. I recommend F.A. Forbes to everyone.

Love this book. Short but very impactful.

About the Author

Chang Sok Suh, MD, OMD, PhD, is a volunteer at the Willed Body Program at the UC Irvine College of Medicine and occasionally teaches acupuncture anatomy classes to licensed California acupuncturists. He received his Oriental Medical License at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea. He was an acupuncture specialist in rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis in the Clinic at Monira General Hospital in Cairo, Egypt. He also is the former personal physician for the royal family of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Suh has taught acupuncture and eastern medicine to students at various institutions throughout the years. He also was a researcher and instructor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at UCI while acting as spokesperson for acupuncturists in the community. Dr. Suh has written or co-written academic journal articles on an extensive variety of topics in the field for more than 20 years.

About the Author Ori Hofmekler is the author of The Warrior Diet and the first to introduce the concept of intermittent fasting in practice.  A native born Israeli, he graduated the Bazalel Academy of Art and the Hebrew university where he earned a degree in Human Sciences.  Hofmekler's formative military experience prompted a life interested in survival science and the biology of stress, all of which inspired him to pioneer a new area of research known as stress activated food (SAF).  The SAF project was initiated in collaboration with a group of scientists and scholars to investigate the impact of nutrients in stressed food on the health and life-span of the consuming organisms. Hofmekler has been since working on new research projects which he believes can help utilize this data to further understand the dynamics of stress and improve life. Hofmekler's previous books include The Warrior Diet (2002, 2007), Maximum Muscle Minimum Fat (2003), The Anti-Estrogenic Diet (2006), and Unlock Your Muscle Gene (2011).
